The former Brazilian president taken into custody after being considered a flight risk
Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.
The one-time leader was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under home detention pending appeals.
Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" were revealed.
This included trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a chance to flee".

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the magistrate said data from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the tracking monitor to ensure success in his flight.
This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his son.
His child, Flávio, who holds office as a legislator, called for a gathering of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.
The senator wrote on online platforms on last Friday: Will you battle for your nation, or see it all from your smartphone there on your settee? I invite you to fight with us."
He said the vigil would be so backers could "pray for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our land."
